USANA Australia is excited to officially welcome professional gymnast Luke Wadsworth to Team USANA. Luke is currently ranked No.1 in Australia and has recently competed at the 2016 Australian Championships with a result of: 1st overall team, 1st all around, 1st Pommel, 1st Rings, Pbars, 2nd Vault and 3rd High Bars).
At the age of 5 Luke asked his mum to teach him how to flip, he was thrilled with what he could do and has never looked back since. His talent naturally took a progressive path and was able to attend a High Performance Program Talent Identification Day at the age of nine, and was accepted in the Victorian HPC Program shortly after. Steady progress with his gymnastics lead Luke to compete for Australia at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in 2009, in which the Australian Team won Bronze. With his skills and love for the sport developing rapidly he participated at two World Championships and the Pacific Rim Championships in 2010.
Luke takes pride in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. “I maintain a healthy lifestyle by staying fit with my training, eating as well as I can, and trying to get enough protein after a session for muscle recovery.”
The gymnast works 6 days a week and trains 6 days a week, thus he needs to have a very organised lifestyle. He says “managing time during training and work is definitely tough”, and believes his number one key factor of being organised is efficiency. As a result, he doesn’t waste time in the gym or participate in anything that is not necessarily productive.
Being a professional athlete takes persistence and determination. Luke believes staying focused on that goal becomes easily managed. “After representing your country the thrill and experience that it brings makes staying focused fairly easy. Wanting to get that feeling and compete at that level or better is something any athlete wants”.
With strong enthusiasm, Luke believes USANA can help improve his performance and allow him to compete at his best. “It’s an exciting opportunity and honour to join team USANA as an athlete. Gymnastics as a sport requires the highest level of strength, flexibility, and balance. USANA provides me the best products to stay at that level throughout training and competition.”
The advice Luke wants to give to upcoming athletes is to “Enjoy the journey. Know that not every day will be easy but always remember the enjoyment it does bring and that thrill of achieving that goal.”
