We recently caught up with the pair to talk about all things Rio! Here’s what they had to say:
What events have you qualified for?
D: 400 Freestyle and 4x200 Freestyle relay.
J: Automatic qualification in the 200 Backstroke and likely swim in the 100 Backstroke.
Is this your first Olympics?
D: This is my second Olympics, 2012 was my first.
J: Yes, I narrowly missed the 2012 London Olympics by .2!
What does it mean to you to represent Australia at this level?
D: It is a great honour to represent Australia at the highest level and with the country behind me it feels awesome!
J: It has been a dream of mine and something I have always wanted to do. I cannot wait to pull on the green and gold.
What are your goals for the Olympics?
D: To swim faster than i did at the Olympic trials.
J: Not just be a number or participant but to be competitive within the final of the 200 Backstroke.
How will you be preparing for the games?
D: I will be spending a lot of time training and sleeping at altitude to increase my aerobic base.
J: Taking a ‘no expectation’ attitude going into the Games, similar to the way I approached the Commonwealth Games back in 2014, where I raced extremely well.
What are you most looking forward to at the games?
D: To see all other sports come together for the greatest sporting event on the plant!
J: Being a part of the Australian Olympic Team and representing my country, team, and everyone who has helped me realise my dream.
How will you stay focused and healthy during the games?
D: I will try to keep my emotions controlled and build it to the days I’m racing.
J: I have been working on many ‘mindfullness’ techniques that will assist me to stay engaged and focused. The use of my USANA products throughout my preparation will also help me to stay healthy.
Any athletes you are hoping to meet at the games, what sport and why?
D: I met a lot of athletes at the last Olympics so to meet them all again would be great.
J: Roger Federer – the greatest ‘sportsman’ to have ever played sport.
What other sports are you looking forward to seeing?
D: After the swimming is finished in week 1, I will be sure to go and support my other team mates in other sports.
J: I am interested in checking out the Australia VS NZ netball match, hopefully a repeat of the 2014 Commonwealth Games game.
From everyone here at USANA Australia we wish both David and Josh all the best on their Olympic journey. Good luck boys!
