USANA Australia is thrilled to welcome pistol shooter Elena Galiabovitch to Team USANA. The 26-year-old is a talented shooter who has been in the sport for around 10 years. Recently Elena has qualified for her first Olympics at the upcoming Rio Games and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for this rising star.
Elena, who is also a doctor, started shooting when she was about 15 years old after she went to a junior camp with her dad during some school holidays. Pistol shooting runs in her family with both her parents shooting in university. Initially she did it mainly for fun but during her medicine studies at university she had to take time off. She started shooting again in 2014 and shortly after started aiming for the 2016 Olympics which she has now qualified for and is looking forward to being a part of.
Elena said her short term goal is to focus on the 2016 Olympics and “do the best that I can” and afterwards will aim for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
“Attending a home Games would be an incredible experience,” she said. “Some of my plans are not shooting-centered; I will also strive to be accepted onto a surgical training program.”
Elena said working as a full-time doctor means her weeks are very busy; however she still makes training and living a healthy style a priority.
“Sometimes a healthy lifestyle can be difficult because I work long hours and need to fit in training around that but I do my best to be mindful of what I fuel my body with, making sure I have adequate nutrition during long days of work and training,” she said. “Although I am busy I aim for balance with work, shooting and the rest of my life, as well as trying to fit in some exercise, all of which are critical to lead a healthy life.”
Elena thinks it’s important to have a good balance between work, training and her social life, making sure she makes time for social engagements and her friends and family as well as time for herself.
She said being “persistent and determined are very important character traits for professional athletes but also in life in general”.
“You never know what could happen but having these traits helps me overcome adversity and continue on when things get hard. Sometimes you feel weak or lacking in determination, it happens to everyone, I find I need to talk myself out of it and try to change my attitude in order to persist.”
She encourages everyone to believe in themselves.
“If you want to do something, no one can stop you if you set your mind to it. If you really want to achieve something, set goals and stick to them and try and try again. Also know that no one else can do it for you or is responsible for your success.”
We wish Elena good luck at the upcoming Olympic Games and once again want to give her a very warm welcome to Team USANA.
