You know that saying, men are from Mars and women are from Venus. Well it might just actually be true when it comes to skin care. Mars is a desolate dry inhospitable planet and generally speaking, men’s skin is no different – especially in Australia where we are exposed to some of the harshest elements on the planet. Think of men’s skin as a desert, parched and cracked. And think of skin care as the long awaited rain that sweeps across the desert plains, bringing hope and life to the forgotten wasteland.
All men will agree when I say this. Everything wears and tears over time. Now here is the big question. Do you want to continue neglecting your skin until you start to see the visible signs of premature aging and irreparable skin damage or do you want to prevent this from happening in the first place? Our skin isn’t as resilient as we think it is. There is hope though. The biggest skin improvements occur to those who haven’t practiced proper skin care in the past. So instead of using a bar of soap on your face, the slightest application of skin care can truly make a world of difference. If you want to turn your skin health around and give your skin the moisture it needs, here are some basic tips for you!
1) Cleanse Dirt causes much more harm than you think. In fact dirt is one of the major precursors for skin conditions, in particular acne. Nobody wants an acne breakout, especially before an important meeting or a date. Removing surface dirt and excess oil is essential if you want to moisturise your skin’s surface. Like all good habits, it’s always best to get into a continuous routine. Cleansing your face twice a day, in the morning and before you go to bed, is an excellent way to rid your skin of pesky dirt particles. Soap tends to remove too many essential oils from your face and doesn’t effectively remove dirt, so it would be wise to start using a cleanser such as USANA’s Gentle Daily Cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin’s natural oil. This mild, soap-free formula washes away impurities without drying or irritating the skin whist it moisturises with aloe and clary sage.
2) Tone Knowing the type of skin you have can ensure that you practice proper skin care habits and use the right products for your skin. Knowledge is power. Once you determine your skin’s characteristics it is imperative that you keep your skin routine as simple as possible. Let’s be honest, who has time to waste on trivialities?! How can you tell what skin type you have? Well it’s as easy as looking at yourself in the mirror. A matte surface generally means you have dry skin and a greasy shiny surface usually translates to oily skin. In simple terms, dry skin requires moisturising if acne isn’t an issue and if you have oily skin you should try to only use an oil-free moisturiser in the morning accompanied by light-weight serum at night.
If you have normal skin or a combination of the above then it would be wise to find a balance between adding oil and moisture. While sensitive skin means you should avoid irritating ingredients, such as alcohol, fragrances, dyes, and preservatives (parabens). If sensitive skin is an issue, try to moisturise twice daily with mild products specifically designed for sensitive skin. USANA’s Hydrating Toner is the perfect addition to your skin regime, restoring pH balance and is safe for all skin types because of its natural non-drying formula.
“I have been a Beauty Therapist for over 20 years and have worked on the holistic side of treating clients from the inside-out. I truly believe in the Sensé products – they don’t use parabens and other irritants known to commonly upset my clients’ skin. It is a plant based product that also delivers its ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin where it is needed for rebuilding and repairing.” – Vicky Jamieson, USANA Associate
3) Moisturise (night)
Like the rest of the body, the skin repairs itself at night. Knowing this, we should place emphasis on helping this natural process. Adding a lotion before bed can help moisturise and repair your skin barrier that is compromised by environmental pressures during the day. If you want to wake up to more vibrant looking skin then look no further. USANA’s Night Renewal moisturiser works overnight to deliver vibrant looking skin, restores moisture, and supports to the skin’s natural cell renewal process. Its powerful moisturising plant extracts are enriched by regenisomes, which help combat the signs of ageing and visibly refine the skin, and Dermal Surface Renewal (DSR) TM technology. It also helps to brighten your complexion with vitamin A and E, and softens your skin with Irish moss, shea butter and mallow.
4) Moisturise (Day)
Ultraviolet light from the sun is the leading cause of skin damage. When it comes to daily skin care make sure you use a product that moisturises with an in-built sunscreen. Hot showers, dry air, and bar soaps take their toll on your skin. Giving your skin that extra support can transform your look. USANA’s Daytime Protective Emulsion w/ SPF 15 delivers intensive all-day moisture, sun protection, and regenisomes to combat ageing. It contains aloe which delivers that concentrated moisture, plankton which guards against the drying effects of the sun, gotu kola and coneflower to help skin look firmer, and Irish moss which softens the skin.
“Sense products protect and hydrate the skin during the day. It’s the best moisturiser I’ve ever used” – William Godward, sponsored athlete
